Lenten Knitting

No religious affiliation, of course. Except those who bow to the altar of yarn.

So are we bringing our UFOs of shame on Tuesday? I'll have two (three counting the jays) in tow.

Help?

Who was it that had a pattern at SnB the other night that was the light blue shrug? What was that in? I was at VW today and a customer wanted something like that and I told her I'd let her know.

Danke!

Mardi Gras UFOs

As I was pawing through one of my stash baskets, I discovered my oldest UFO: an intarsia vest that I had knit for my ex-husband in colors that now make me cringe a bit. I had been knitting for about a year when I started it, and it's not bad, if you don't mind turquoise. You know my gauge issues. Well, before I added the edging around the entire thing, I had F. try it on. It maybe would fit a 7-year-old. I never finished the edges, although I'm proud to tell you that I did weave in the gabillion and seven ends.

So, upon the sight of this object, I thought that I should really finish it. After the Jaywalkers, of course. Although I'm not a practicing anything right now, Lent begins next Wednesday. I've decided that one thing I will do during that time is to finish this UFO, maybe a few others, all of which seem to need just a little bit of time.

Anyone want to join me on the UFO project? I thought that in celebration of Mardi Gras on 2/28 we could bring in our oldest UFO's to show off. Then, sometime soon, show them again as FO's.

Any seven-year-olds who want a vest?!

Awful News

I stopped by Village Wools today, just to be around some knitters as I move from the turned heel to the gussets, and I saw a sign that they were closed because of a burglary. Has anyone heard any other information?

Please keep our dear LYS owners and workers in your thoughts.

ETA: I just read the Group info about this.

Crafty Friday

Redux.

Friday, February 24, 7:30 p.m. Come craft with me and my UNM friends. I'll be teaching one of my male poet friends to knit. He's a good dancer, too...maybe the itunes will have to come out and play!

I'll post directions on the Yahoo group. Let me know if you think you'll be there so I can be sure to have enough chairs!

not to brag...

Ok, maybe a little bit! I finished my Jaywalkers!! I'm wearing them as I type this. I know some of you finished days & weeks ago, but since these are my first socks, I'm extra proud!
Go check my blog!

Flying Star

Hello! No one's posted here in a while so I thought I'd do one.

Why don't we discuss Flying Star's menu? I always have a hard time deciding because it's hard to see everything up on the wall. I get stressed because there are people behind me so I end up getting the same things every week. So let's discuss what's been good and what hasn't.

The egg salad sandwich I got last week kind of made me sick. That might be my body's weird reaction to egg or stress though because it tasted fine.
I love their hummus nosh that's always good and just enough for a snack but not too much.
I've also had the ABC Patty Melt several times - odd with the bacon and avocado but good.
The mac and cheese is wonderfully cheesy and carbolicious.
I don't like the pot pie. I joke with Cody about it being chicken soup with a big premade flaky hat.
The grilled cheese is pretty good too.

Not exactly vegan or vegetarian fare, I know, I'll probably move towards salads as it gets warmer but right now I'm sticking to the hot things.

What about you guys?

OSW Question

So, my ol' eyes are getting tired. I know I saw a schematic online SOMEWHERE that shows exactly where to measure the shoulders. I'm making this as a swap for a small knitting bag (a designated sock bag, perchance), and I want the lovely recipient to get a good fit. Anyone know where this is? I googled, but I just can't keep looking at the d*mn sites...if someone has it saved, I'd appreciate the link.

See you all tomorrow.

Woohoo!

Finally finished my first Jaywalker! I cast on for the second already before I could get complacent and rest on my sock-knittin' laurels. Pictures posted at my blog (http://implosionexplosion.blogspot.com/). Can I just say one more time how much I love self-striping yarn?

A Big Shout out

To Cynthia! She brought me the first batch of our cards yesterday at work and they are AWESOME! Everyone needs to thank her (and her husband) for doing this for us. I was able to give a bunch out yesterday too. We'll get the rest next week so we can all have some.

Thanks again! You rock!

Dye-ing Party?

I keep looking at the dye-it-yourself sockweight yarn at knitpicks, and despite my semester-long yarn embargo (YES, I was at V.W. today, and YES, I bought two skeins of Nature Spun, but golly, it's for Sockapaloooza!), I thought it might be fun to plan a dye party. Anyone with a big enough kitchen and willing to host such a fiasco?

New Blog and Commenting Update

Jamie commented that she is not able to comment on my new blog. Turns out that you have to be a BlogHarbor user or create a reader account with them to comment. Ugh. But, apparently they are in the process of creating a new system for commenting that is supposed to launch later this month which will allow folks to input their contact information and leave a comment. They will no longer have to be Blogharbor readers or users. Duh that I missed this little nuisance. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Go look!

My new website is finally up and working thanks to the amazing help of Noelle, it's such a kick-ass site! Just promise not to ask Noelle for any help. She might need a year or two to recover from helping me!!!

Go look! Make sure you hit the subscribe button to add to your Bloglines. If you don't have a bloglines GET ONE! Also, there is still a bit of tweaking to do so little things will be changed over time.

LEave a comment for me there so I know you were able to get over and check it out!

I'm all about blogging!

Hey ya'll. I've gone and done it. I launched a blog called Knitting in the Desert. And now I cannot stop posting photos and I probably will be dreaming of posts and spending hours and hours learning how to download those little buttons and put them on my blog and learning how to make those little buttons and -- ok, I better stop and eat something. But I'd love it if you all would stop in and have a look and tell me if anything is too stupid or hard to read or understand or navigate. There are two posts so far. Oh god I am way too excited.

Sock yarn suggestions?

Hi all,
So, my sockapaloooza pal has a preference for vintage style calf-length socks (I'd better start today, the way I knit!) and said that anything with "brazil" in a yarn's name makes her run away. I don't quite get that last comment, but she has another language besides English as her first, so maybe it doesn't translate? Also, she can't wear artificial fibers...any suggestions on a yarn? I wouldn't mind using something a little thicker than the koigu so I can finish before the May deadline!

Thanks for your help...

Looking for knitters in Albuquerque

This is just a test to see if we put this in our Blog if it comes up on Google. Right now when you hit:

Albuquerque Stitch 'n' Bitch

The Duke City article comes up!

I just wanted to see if this works.

look for other knitters in Albuquerque New Mexico with whom to stitch and bitch.

What other words are good keywords?

Pam Houston at Bookworks

You may have seen the sign for it, but if not, I wanted to let you all know that Pam Houston will be giving a reading at Bookworks, my favorite independent bookseller in Abq.

Date: Thursday, February 2
Time: 7:00 p.m.

Bookworks is right next door to Flying Star. I have a late class, so I'm not sure I'll make it, but she's a good writer, and this is an excellent chance to meet her and hear her read. Let me know if you go!
